CEO Duff Sprague Interview with CBC Morning One

June 13th, 2024

This morning, CEO, Duff Sprague, was invited to speak on CBC radio to discuss the crisis of lack of access to family physicians. In this interview, Duff explains that the government announcements to strengthen primary care and family medicine won’t be achievable if changes don’t happen systemically for our family physicians and other clinicians on primary care teams.

Duff went on to share that primary care teams will only be a solution if you have family physicians aligned with them and nurse practitioners, social workers, dietitians, pharmacists and other disciplines prepared to work in them. A medical school dedicated to family medicine is only a solution if graduates choose to open a family practice.

Duff Sprague highlighted that his team of clinicians, which includes nurse practitioners, nurses, mental health clinicians, pharmacists, and dietitians have not received a wage increase in almost five years. Family medicine is no longer a practice of choice and for other healthcare disciplines primary care teams are no longer an employer of choice.
